Brass

Info

Brass is a material commonly used in jewellery. It is a copper alloy containing 15% zinc, 5% tin and 80% copper and is capable of showcasing intricate details and offers a professional, finished look and feel. Brass is offered in both Natural and Polished, both giving the material a different visual experience. Brass will tarnish and wear over time, but can be polished back to achieve a like-new surface.

(Note: Brass rings can often leave a non-harmful greenish tinge on the skin with wear over time, to best reduce this try to avoid getting your brass rings wet where possible. This natural material reaction is not a fault.)

The Process

Making

Mano rings are made in New York using both traditional and new innovative processes, rings are fabricated using lost wax casting. First, each ring is 3D printed in wax using specialised high-resolution 3D printers, giving each ring outstanding detail and accuracy. It is then suspended in a container where liquid plaster is poured in encasing the ring. Once the plaster sets, the wax ring is melted out in a furnace, and the remaining plaster becomes the mould. Molten material is poured into this mould and set to harden. Finally, the plaster is broken away, revealing the ring in its desired material. But the process doesn’t finish there, for polished brass and silver each ring is hand polished giving it a mirror like appearance showcasing its unique design.

For gold plated rings each ring goes through two plating steps - first a layer of tin-rhodium is applied to provide strength and durability. Then your selected precious metal plating provides the finishing touch.

The rings are then all individually inspected independently by Mano Objects, making sure they meet sizing requirements and are of the highest quality. Each individual ring is then packaged by Mano in Adelaide, Australia and posted personally by us to you.
